Yoni steaming, also known as vaginal steaming, is an alternative wellness practice that involves sitting or squatting over hot, herbal-infused water to promote relaxation and cleanse the vagina (yep, really!!).
People swear by it for things like balancing their menstrual cycles and giving themselves a little self-care boost. While the scientific evidence on it's efficacy is limited, it's become quite the popular practice for many.

The Toilet Throne
- How it works: The easiest way to create a Yoni Throne is to use your toilet. Whilst this may seem an unusual suggestion it is actually really comfortable and practical. You may wish to enhance the sacred feel of the room with candles, flowers and other delights that help you relax and feel like a goddess.

How to do it:
- Clean the entire toilet thoroughly.
- Place a large heat proof bowl inside the toilet, preferably one that covers most of the inside of the toilet. Optional - Place another smaller bowl inside the large bowl to concentrate the direction of the steam.
- Place 2 heaped tablespoons (5g) of herb in the centre of the bowl and add half cup of hot water. Keep the kettle or jug of hot water close by for topping up.
- Check steam is at a comfortable temperature, and carefully sit on the toilet seat.
- Wrap a towel of other option for sealing you body with the seat to ensure the steam is not lost.
- Sit for 20-30 minutes, which is best for effective healing. You may wish to top up the bowl with hot water to keep generating steam.
- You may wish to use this time for mediation or creative visualisation to increase the effect through intention.

1. Sitting Over a Pot of Steaming Herbs
- How it works: You place a pot of steaming herbal water on the floor and sit directly over it, allowing the steam to rise and come into contact with the vaginal area.

How to do it:
- Boil water and add a selection of herbs (such as butterfly pea, calendula, rose, and lavender) - or simply add one of our easy yoni steam blends.
- Once the water has cooled to a safe temperature, sit on a sturdy chair or on the floor over the pot with a towel wrapped around your waist to trap the steam.
- Steam for about 20 to 30 minutes, ensuring the temperature is comfortable.
2. Yoni Steam Seat
- How it works: A specialised seat or chair with a hole in the center is placed over a bowl or pot of steaming herbal water. The steam rises through the hole, targeting the vaginal area.

- You can either purchase a pre-made yoni steam seat or create a DIY version.
- The seat should be placed over a bowl of herbs, and you sit on it for the duration of the steam session (usually 20–30 minutes).
- Some people prefer this method because it is more comfortable than sitting on the floor.
3. Yoni Steam in a Sauna or Steam Room
- How it works: Some wellness centres or spas offer yoni steam sessions in a sauna or steam room. The herbs are placed in a steam system that delivers the benefits of both steam and herbs.

- The steam room will typically have herbs infused in the steam, and you can relax there for 20 to 30 minutes.
- Ensure the room is heated to a safe, comfortable temperature to avoid any risk of burns.
4. Portable Yoni Steam Bags
- How it works: These are pre-packaged herbal bags filled with a mix of herbs designed for yoni steaming. You place the bag in hot water, and once it infuses the water, you can use it for steaming.

- Boil water and place the herb bag in the water to steep.
- After the water cools to a safe temperature, place it in a bowl or basin.
- Sit over the bowl with a towel wrapped around your waist to trap the steam, and steam for about 20 minutes.
5. Using a Yoni Steam Sitz Bath
- How it works: A sitz bath is a small, shallow basin that fits into your toilet. It can be used to sit comfortably while soaking in herbal-infused water.

- Boil herbs and water, and pour the mixture into the sitz bath.
- Sit in the bath and let the steam rise for about 20 to 30 minutes.
- This method may feel more convenient and easier to use than the other methods.
Safety Considerations:
- Temperature Check: Don't turn your yoni into a hot tub! Make sure that steam isn't too hot, or you'll be feeling more sizzle than sparkle.
- Herbal Sensitivities: You're a goddess, not a guinea pig. Choose herbs you are not allergic to. Consult with a healthcare provider, especially if you have underlying conditions like vaginal infections, pregnancy, or uterine issues.
