Kola nut powder is made from the dried seeds of Cola species, traditionally Cola nitida, Cola acuminata, and the closely related Cola vera. The seeds naturally contain caffeine, theobromine and other methylxanthines, along with tannins, saponins and antioxidant polyphenols¹. These compounds contribute to the kola nut’s stimulant qualities, supporting alertness, reducing fatigue and gently enhancing metabolic and circulatory activity².
In West African traditional use, kola nuts have been chewed or ground into powder as part of social, ceremonial and medicinal practices, often valued for promoting clarity, vigour and endurance¹. Modern phytochemical analyses confirm its high caffeine content and the presence of antimicrobial and antioxidant constituents².
