Horny Goat Weed (Epimedium sagittatum Maxim., herba)
Horny Goat Weed refers to the aerial parts of Epimedium species, including Epimedium sagittatum, traditionally used in Chinese herbal medicine. The herb contains a group of prenylated flavonoids, most notably icariin, alongside epimedin A, B and C, lignans, and polysaccharides¹. These compounds have been studied for their potential to influence nitric-oxide signalling, support micro-circulation, modulate inflammatory pathways and contribute antioxidant activity². In traditional Chinese medicine, Epimedium is regarded as a yang-tonic herb used to support vitality, musculoskeletal strength and general reproductive wellbeing¹. Modern laboratory studies have investigated its effects on vascular smooth-muscle relaxation, bone-metabolism pathways and immune-cell activity².
