Marshmallow is a wonderful demulcent herb which soothes and protects irritated and inflamed tissue, due to its high content of mucilage. It is used for digestive inflammation and irritation in cases of gastritis, peptic ulcers, and colitis. It can help clear mucus from the body, and can be used to soothe the urinary and respiratory system, in cases of cystitis, dry coughs, etc. Due to its emollient properties, marshmallow is one of the most effective herbs for moisturising and softening the skin. May also be smoked.
