Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) – leaf (folium)
The leaves of Verbascum thapsus (common mullein) contain mucilage-rich polysaccharides (with around 3 % mucilage reported²) along with saponins, flavonoids (such as acubin), iridoid glycosides, phenylethanoid glycosides and tannins¹. These constituents are thought to support the herb’s use in botanical medicine for soothing irritated mucous membranes of the respiratory tract, and aiding expectoration of mucus through saponin-induced airway-secretory support². According to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) a formal EU herbal monograph exists of V. thapsus (Verbasci flos) for traditional use in catarrhal infections of the upper respiratory tract³.

Emz I bought this product for my father who has stage 4 emphysema. While I am aware that it won’t cure his emphysema, we were hoping that it would improve his breathing in some way. He has been using it for a few months and feels that it has made a positive difference in his ability to breathe, he wants to stay off of oxygen for as long as possible and this looks as if it may just help him to do that 🤗
