Tribulus terrestris seeds contain a rich profile of steroidal saponins, particularly furostanol and spirostanol glycosides such as protodioscin, alongside flavonoids, alkaloids, and phytosterols that contribute to its phytochemical complexity.¹,² These constituents have been studied in various experimental contexts, including green synthesis of bioactive nanoparticles demonstrating antioxidant and antimicrobial modulation in vitro when mediated by T. terrestris phytoconstituents.¹ Genetic diversity analyses of T. terrestris populations confirm wide ecological and chemotypic variation across regions, which can influence seed and fruit metabolite profiles relevant to saponin content and potential biochemical interactions.² Protodioscin has been investigated for its capacity to modulate androgen-related signalling in isolated tissues, acting indirectly on receptor systems through influence on endogenous androgen levels rather than directly altering receptor density.³ Traditional use in Ayurvedic and Mediterranean systems includes tonic and diuretic applications.¹,²,³
