As a tea, Wild Lettuce is commonly used to help induce sleep, creating a calming feeling, as well as being a nervous system tonic. The herb was used in the 19th century by physicians when opiates could not be obtained. It was traditionally used by the native North Americans for lucid dreaming purposes. Some have found it to be an excellent support in their efforts to overcome cannabis addiction.

Wild Lettuce (Lactuca virosa) — Dried Herb
Lactuca virosa aerial parts and latex contain a complex mixture of sesquiterpene lactones (including lactucin and lactucopicrin), polyphenols, and minor flavonoids that contribute to its traditional use and observed biochemical interactions.¹,² In compositional analyses, these sesquiterpene lactones have been linked to modulatory activity in in vitro systems involving enzyme inhibition and receptor-mediated pathways, while isolated polyphenolic fractions demonstrate antioxidant effects without implying specific physiological outcomes.¹,² Traditional herbal literature associates wild lettuce with “soothing” and “relaxation-related” narratives, and contemporary public resources describe its historical use as a leafy botanical with mild calming connotations.³ Contemporary research continues to explore how sesquiterpene lactones and phenolic constituents interact with cellular signalling and redox regulation in model systems, acknowledging variability by plant part, extraction method, and chemotype.¹,²

Wild Lettuce
Commonly used to help induce sleep, creating a calming feeling, as well as being a nervous system tonic.
My best friend while I stopped smoking. I still use it to relax and during meditation or yoga to help centre myself. It’s beautiful.
I got this to help with chronic menstrual cramps and difficulty sleeping because of the pain intensity. Have definitely noticed a difference within the last month of using it and feel it helps me calm down after a long day and ready for bed. Have been mixing with marshmallow leaf also as recommended by the lovely guy in the cairns store. He was super helpful and knowledgeable!
Amazing results Amy thank you so much for leaving your review! Wild lettuce is an incredible herb we are so pleased it has helped you in so many ways.
I've recently ordered and begun trialing Wild Lettuce as I seek out natural relief for pain. I'm still working out the ratio of leaf to water for tea but I do think it helps, let's be honest even if it's 10% taken away, that less that I have to cope with. Will be trailing the tincture next, happy so far!
