HERBAL INTELLIGENCE
Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata L., herba)
The aerial parts of Passiflora incarnata contain flavonoids such as vitexin, isovitexin, apigenin and chrysin, along with small amounts of alkaloids, glycosides and phenolic compounds¹. These constituents are thought to exert mild calming effects by modulating the GABA-ergic system in the brain, which aligns with its traditional use for restlessness, mild nervousness and sleep-difficulty².
According to the European Medicines Agency (EMA), Passiflorae herba has a recognised status as a traditional herbal medicinal product for the relief of mild symptoms of mental stress and to aid sleep in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age¹.
