HERBAL INTELLIGENCE
HERBAL INTELLIGENCE
Butterfly Pea
Clitoria ternatea, commonly known as butterfly pea or blue pea, contains a rich variety of active plant compounds including anthocyanins (notably ternatins), flavonoids (such as kaempferol, quercetin and myricetin glycosides), alkaloids, triterpenoids, and phenolic acids(1). These compounds may support the body by contributing to antioxidant protection, modulating inflammatory and microbial-related pathways, and supporting nervous system signalling and metabolic resilience (e.g., helping maintain healthy glucose or lipid parameters)(2).
In traditional herbal systems across Asia, the flower and whole plant have been used for mental vitality, low mood, eye health, urinary or reproductive support and as a natural colourant; contemporary research is exploring neuro-protective, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and adaptogenic properties though high-quality clinical evidence remains preliminary(3).
